"I personally lived the impact of BCE. In 2011, my wife was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I slept very little for months and soon knew as much about the disease as the specialists. This began my investment in every treatment beyond what insurance would pay for. In those situations, my future plans and visions changed to trying to beat the disease. I put everything into it. While she recovered from her first brain surgery and then her second, followed by chemo and radiation, I invested in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and the best functional medicine I could find. One of those Decembers and knowing that we simply didn’t have extra cash to do anything special for Christmas, I pulled the kids into the living room to have that empty Christmas tree conversation. My doorbell rang and prior to saying a word to the kids, I went to the door to find a bunch of strangers. They funneled into the house, along with a couple of people from my Optum team. My work team wrote them a story and nominated my family. The kids went from no gifts to all of them getting more than they would ever ask for. BCE paid our mortgage that month. They paid our utilities bills. Most importantly, they met us in our mess and made us hopeful in what often felt like a hopeless situation. We cried, they cried and I am confident every heart was changed that night. The people with BCE and my co-workers that night was the business that sponsored us. I’ll never forget it and will be forever grateful for them. "
